I had a custom, non-official tweak on my Win8.1: I actually had a hardlink of my 9GB "Windows/Installer" to another HD. (This actually worked beautifully since .MSI etc. files don't really need to be on the SSD and I ran out of space.).
So I upgraded (foolishly, forgetting about this) to Win10, first attempt went very quick.
Little did I know that the Upgrade (of course) got confused by this hardlink of a system folder which resulted in me unable to de-install things.
So I thought...ok I really want to do this clean...and I decided on a second attempt of upgrading 8.1 to 10.
I restored a backup I had from my 60GB System partition using EeseUS Backup which took an ASTONISHING approx. 80mins. WHY. I don't know.
After the 8.1 partition was restored I found, by pure coincedence, that the partition was not aligned properly for SSDs. (Something I didn't see in a long time since I assumed most backup programs smart enough to take care of this).
So I had to run another tool to align my partition which took another 25 or so minutes.
Finally, I had 8.1 on there, so I deleted the hardlink and copied over my Installer files to a folder on C: as its supposed to be.
Attempt #2
Unlike earlier, downloading took AGES. After an hour or so it sits at 19%.
Somehow, later, it finished downloading and it is 70% in the new attempt to upgrade to Win10 - AND WE HAVE A POWER OUTAGE.
I reboot, and I see a bootmenu and assume that pressing "Windows Setup" from the bootmenu will resume my failed install.
I was wrong.
What it does is reverting back to my old Windows. Another 50 or so minutes pass.
After an endless time I am now back at square ZERO and, yes you guessed right, I am starting my next attempt to upgrade to 10.
Needless to say, all the files it downloaded for the upgrade just before are now gone and it does everything from scratch. Downloading....2%....10%...slow like a$$.
SOMEHOW at some time....the sun is already setting...I have managed to to update to a working Win10. I do the usual initial tweaks and stuff.
I start Cyberfox...and to my horror find that all logins and passwords are GONE! This is especially important since I manage a large nr. of sites and I would be lost without my saved passwords.
WHAT the reason for the lost passwords was, I don't know. All I know is that the newest backup had a corrupted Cyberfox profile but a (manual) restore from a backup I did an hour or so earlier worked. Thank god I had this one. So I copied the profiles over and now it worked.
Now I have Win10, I am LESS than impressed, in fact I am more annoyed but anything...but whatever. Just makes you wonder....WHY????
