Windows 10 slow to remove deleted items from display

This started a few years ago I believe - I delete a file (move it to the recycle bin) and the image/icon stays on the screen. Doesn't seem to matter what it is - picture, Word doc, Excel file, etc. Doesn't seem to matter where is it either - desktop, file folder, etc. Give it about a minute, and it will finally go away. This doesn't happen every time, or even every day. I have seen this on my desktop and two work laptops. This can happen when connected to, or disconnected from, a VPN. I had read in the past that clearing the Thumbnail cache will alleviate this, but I have tried this a few times over the past few years and doesn't seem to make any difference.

The reverse also seems to happen at times. Most recently I downloaded an attachment to my desktop. It was a full minute before it actually appeared on the desktop. If I go through Explorer, it shows right up.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Used Ccleaner several times over the years. Except for finding files I don't have time to look for, doesn't seem to make any difference for this issue.
As to the memory and disk space, while running apps similar to what I would be running while working, I have 44.2 GB of RAM free and 6.39 TB free on C drive.
