Windows 10 random startup repair

I built a Ryzen 2700x system with a GB 350 motherboard a few weeks ago, all stock. Clean windows install.

It seems like every other, or third startup windows wants to do a startup repair where it goes through this whole process and says it can't be fixed. I just restart the computer and it will come up perfectly fine however. The system has been totally stable otherwise, hours of gaming etc.

Its not a huge deal but it is definitely annoying. I will start recording any error messages that show but until then, any idea what could cause this?

Agreed is sounds like a drive problem.

I would double check the drive cables to make sure they are secured. A random contact issue can wreak havoc on a system and I know from experience how frustrating it can be trying to track it down.

So I ended up running a windows 10 memory check, which came back with errors. I then disabled XMP and haven't seen any issues since. This memory was stable with XMP enabled in my 6850k build but maybe not on Ryzen?

This stuff is rated for 3000mhz XMP on x99... runs 2100mhz without it so thats pretty damn slow right? If memory prices ever come down maybe I'll upgrade. Or if this issue comes back I'll check my drives closer.

If your RAM isn't on the motherboard QVL list, or certified by the RAM manufacturer to work properly in the motherboard, that could be the cause of your issues. Ryzen is very finicky with RAM modules.
