Windows 10 on 2006 Core Duo iMac? How about a 2008 MacBook?

I have a 2006 iMac with 2 GB RAM and 2.0 GHz Core Duo, from early 2006. It was a freebie from my workplace, because our IT department won't allow any Mac on the network if it's running OS X 10.6 or older. This machine does not support 10.7 so was orphaned and given to me.

Well, 10.6 runs fine and the speed is fine for surfing, but the only browser left that still supports it is Firefox. Since OS X doesn't support it anymore, I'd consider installing Windows 10 on it. Note that while it does not have any Windows 10 drivers, it does have a full set of Windows 7 BootCamp drivers.

Would that work? Has anyone here tried doing a BootCamp clean install of Win 10 when only Win 7 is supported, on a Mac this old?

If it works, I'd start looking for a sale on a Win 10 key somewhere. August sees the arrival of Win 10 Anniversary Edition, and it also is when Firefox will be dropping support for 10.6-10.8. (Chrome and Safari have long since dropped support for old versions of OS X too.)

Come to think of it, this would apply to my 2008 MacBook too. That one is on 10.7 only.

Nah, it will not run on it.

Even 2009 Macs give hard time when attempting upgrade to Win 10.

It has to do with Macs BIOS
. In contrast many of the same type Core2Duo Dells PCs would accommodate Win 10.

I have a Dell laptop 1525 circa 2009 that originally came with Vista, then Upgraded to Win 7 and now it runs flawless Win 10 Pro.

A family member MacBook Pro 15" that currently runs Yosemite and Win 7 Ultimate in Bootcamp refuses to load/upgrade to Win 10.

This is an old thread but the information is incorrect. I have Windows 10 running on a 2006 MacBook Pro A1150 with a Core Duo processor. I have installed it on many older systems. To get Windows 10 on there though, you have to install Windows 7 first and then upgrade. If you're running a 32-bit version of Windows, you need to install BootCamp 3.1 from the Snow Leopard Disc onto Windows 7 before upgrading to 10 otherwise you may run into problems trying to install it in 10 as it will say the system is not supported. There are ways around that easily with Core 2 Duo systems if you're running the 64-bit version but that's another story.
