Windows 10 motherboard swap - anyone done it yet?

I'm going from Z77-Z97 so think it should be fine . . . any experiences?

If it is the free upgrade it should be rejected as it is only good for the original MB it was installed on...

My fingers are crossed . . . the free upgrade was supposed to be over, too, but it still works if you look in the right spot.

Update: did not work. Was able to clean install off of a USB and activate using one of my Windows 7 licenses though.

(semi O/T: somehow I ended up with 5 copies of Windows 7, heh. Unless they add Media Center back in, I will only be running 10 on this one computer.)

I did something similar and it worked even with the key, it just reloaded drivers for new mobo's components and it was done.

It actually booted up and ran fine, it just wouldn't let me activate, even though the PC was associated with my Microsoft account.

Microsoft is just enforcing their stated policy. The Windows 10 Digital License is only good on the originally installed motherboard.

I'm not complaining at all, like I said, I have plenty of licenses to use. I imagine if I was using a 10 retail license it would have worked perfectly.

I've done it and it activated, as long as the Win 7/8 was retail and upgraded to Win 10 it'll activate.

Did it two days ago. Went from a Z97 to X99 motherboard. I just had to re-enter my original product key for Windows 8.1 and it activated.
