Windows 10 Mobile Update To Finally Reach Older Lumia Phones

Only ATT phones apparently. My Verizon 822 is listed as not supported although some people have had success installing the latest insider build.

Neither the Nokia Lumia Icon. Also, its not just ATT if you look closely, it also, says 930 which means T-mobile. Also, I use the insiders preview app, that microsoft placed up on their store, it works on almost all phones.

However when the Redstone updates came, they restarted the whole availability process they only are giving newer updates to the very few selected phones. I only have threshold veersion of windows 10 mobile on Nokia Lumia Icon :'( , why not 929 and 930? why only 930?:'(

I've run 10 on my Lumia 640 through the insider program for months. It is solid. There is no difference between getting the official update when your carrier decides to allow it vs. running the insider build.

My Lumia 1520 is unlocked and on the Metro pcs network.

The update went well.
So far Outlook has many more options. The Edge browser is faster. The start screen can fit many more tiles. The new pull down quick access is larger and holds twice the options.
The store has more apps. Overall I like it, it's just hard to get used to after having windows 8 /8.1 for so long.

Well, kinda...I have an unlocked AT&T 640 gofone. I had it on Ting but I canceled the account and no sim is in the phone currently.

When I run the upgrade advisor I get a message that my phone is eligible for the Windows 10 upgrade and that Microsoft is working with the phone manufacturer (which is Microsoft) and my service provider (which doesn't exist) to make the upgrade available.

Apparently, even though the phone is unlocked and not used on a cell network (wifi only) I still have to wait for AT&T to make it available to me.

10 lacks Wi-Fi calling for TMO and HERE maps will no longer function after June 30.

Seriously? Why? I don't care about Windows 10 update, but I keep my Lumia 635 in the car and have been using it as my GPS device with HERE maps.

But, if notice, it says here maps, is shutting down in the summer. Thus, the only alternative is windows maps, which is only available on Windows 10 Mobile. You know what you could do is check to what it says your location is on the browser, just go on the browser, and go to bing.com, MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON DESKTOP PREVIEW, AND THAT ALL FORMS OF LOCATION ACCESS IS ON, BEFORE YOU DO THAT, see what it says your location is. If it shows just a general area, then you may need Windows 10 Mobile, windows maps. If it shows your exact area, then you can use the browser when HERE maps are gone in August.

Not enough users to justify continued development. Here is only removed for Win10, it will still live on 8, but only get critical updates.

Edit w/ more background: According to the Here blog they were using a workaround for Here on Windows 10 which will no longer function in June. I am guessing this means that it doesn't work on Windows redstone builds (which should be released to the general public in June). They would need to rebuild the app to make it work with 10, something they don't want to do.

I got a 521 that has 10 on it, and it is ridiculously slow at times.
I still use it as a navigator though. Sad to see Here maps are not going to be updated.
Though, I do wonder, what is it about the maps that aren't cross-platform?
If I got the maps on my android, those should transfer over to the 521 without issue...but, I haven't tried.

HERE maps will continue to function with 8.1 but no longer be updated aside from critical fixes. Windows maps (also available on 8.1) use HERE data but is not on par with HERE maps yet. The 635 with 512MB such as from TMO will not receive an update to 10 anyway and although it can be installed, doing so also means losing Wi-Fi calling as said.

Excellent free offline navigation has been the primary attraction for Nokia phones for about six years. So it was already disappointing (though understandable) when maps ceased to be updated for Symbian devices, and then when storage to SD was inexplicably removed from 8.1 (although reinstated with 10).

My Nokia Lumia Icon on Windows 10 Mobile Insiders Preview, allows Wi-Fi calling using Skype.

Was referring to Wi-Fi calling on T-Mobile. But Skype was another disappointing discontinuation on Symbian.

The 1020 isn't getting it which sucks big time. I know it's 3yrs old, but they did say all phone with 1gb of ram would get it.

Day 4, after 2 reset I still trying to get W10M to work. With what's working I see a lot of meaningless changes like keyboard, some loss features, looks like W10 and notifications become very inconsistent. I fail to see any improvement yet.

Seems like there is some problem with the Snapdragon S4 which the 920/925 also use. Guess they did not find an easy way to fix the issue. I can't blame them for giving up (they are old phones), but it is disappointing. Not sure why they never bothered upgrading the SoC on the 1020 though, it was always slow to take pics due to the S4.

The 1020 and Icon have 2 GB of RAM.

Granted the 1020 with the S4 is likely to have sub par performance, at least for enough people to make it not a good candidate.

But the Icon (and M8 on Verizon, for that matter) is just another victim of the Microsoft and Verizon pissing contest.

I did download new worldwide map data for my 808 a couple months ago.

Had to search around a bit to find the correct directory path - the auto updater on device kept failing.
