Would be nice to have a sticky with the latest Windows 10 information. Just an idea.

Microsoft has released a new update for Windows 10, its third this year, following the rollout of build 10586.63 in mid-January, and 10586.71 a couple of weeks later.

This latest release for Windows 10 PCs not enrolled in the Insider Program bumps the build up to 10586.104. As the incremental increase in build number suggests, this is a cumulative update to previous releases from the Threshold (TH2) development branch; newer builds from the Redstone branch are currently available only to those on the Windows Insider Program.

With today's release, Microsoft has finally reversed its decision to avoid providing detailed changelogs for these relatively minor cumulative updates. The company has launched a new 'Windows 10 Update History' site, giving a clear breakdown of what each such update includes.
And for the first time in Windows 10’s history Microsoft has provided a changelog:
Fixed issues with authentication, update installation, and operating system installation.

Fixed issue with Microsoft Edge browser caching visited URLs while using InPrivate browsing.

Fixed issue that didn’t allow simultaneous install of apps from the Windows Store and updates from Windows Update.

Fixed issue that delayed the availability of songs added to the Groove Music app in Windows 10 Mobile.

Improved security in the Windows kernel.

Fixed security issues that could allow remote code execution when malware is run on a target system.

Fixed security issues in Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 that could allow code from a malicious website to be installed and run on a device.

Fixed additional issues with the Windows UX, Windows 10 Mobile, Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge, and taskbar.

Fixed additional security issues with .NET Framework, Windows Journal, Active Directory Federation Services, NPS Radius Server, kernel-mode drivers, and WebDAV.
Looks like, I need to update my usb pen yet again.

Yeah, imagine how many more fixes are still to go... Work in progress, until declared unfit

At least they are making people aware of the actual changes coming with XYZ updates. For a start

I've considered trying the insider previews but I use my pc's for school and need them to function normally. I can't be a guinea pig for MS and have it malfunction while doing something on a timer.

On Build 14257 here.

Yeah I have that one too, maybe the next one will be in a few days.

We'll keep ninja cat testing it out for ya, they have been rolling the insider builds out pretty fast :)

Do you guys have Redstone builds yet? I'm curious if extensions have been added to Edge yet. I love edge, but I srsly need an adblocker. I'm using a host file right now, but that gives me a lot of ugly layout-breaking "Hmm, looks like we can't load this" panels.

My laptop just updated yesterday. It took almost 1 hour to do it. So far all is well, but Microsoft needs to rethink about pushing some of their junk software. The update deliberately uninstalled SpybotSD in favor of Windows Defender. Personally, this choice should be left to the End User, not to Microsoft, like when they were trying to force IE to be your Default Web Browser ... sooner or later, someone will file a complaint (think the EU again) which will force MS to do things the correct way.

Here is the new build:

Build 14271 Changelog:

We fixed an issue where the window borders on apps would change from accent color to black after every upgrade to a new build.
We have updated the music control icons that are shown in taskbar previews in music apps like Groove to look more crisp and clean at higher resolutions.
We fixed an issue where the taskbar would sometimes not auto-hide and show unexpectedly on top of full screen windows such as showing above a PowerPoint presentation when in slideshow mode.
We fixed an issue where the “Hide notifications while presenting” setting preference is lost after upgrading to a new build.
The entire app header in Action Center is now right-clickable instead of just the app name or “x”.
We made it easier to dismiss all notifications from a specific app in Action Center by increasing the target area to encompass the entire app header.
We fixed an issue where interaction notifications would not show a button to input text in some cases.
Fast user switching should work now with Picture Password.
We fixed an issue where some desktop (Win32) apps look missing from Start.
We fixed an issue where the accent color does not automatically change when the slideshow option is chosen for your desktop background.

I laughed when I found out Edge keeps data in private browsing...

Many browsers keep data in private browsing...

Not sure what rock you may have been under ():)

I still use Firefox myself, windows 10 does not require you to use Edge.

I'm waiting for more of the Redstone to roll out myself, Edge does look interesting but things are still in development it looks.

Have gotten a few odd reboots with 14271, still playing.

I had a problem with that in the past and had to turn down the overclock a little...

Hmm.

*edit* yeah have even been messing with the overclock on the old X5680 a bit more, did have another crash.

It was running stable awhile now but turned things down a touch.

14271 has crashed it a few times, but haven't tweaked things in awhile.

Ah nice, thanks for the update.

We fixed an issue where restarting your PC might become stuck on “Restarting…” screen rather than prompting “Are you sure you want to Restart?” when unsaved work is present.
Glad, it's fixed now.

Sticky notes and tablet mode improvements are great for Surface or other tablet users. And I like the calendar reminders, I always thought that was a missing feature from Windows because I use synced calendars all the time to keep me reminded of things.

Odd stuff... still stuck at 99%. Guess I'll leave it on all night to see if it passes.

I'm still waiting until all the huppola dies down over WinX - I staying with Win7 64-Bit Ultimate until then.

Z-Fifteen-man! I could send a PM about this, but you might find this interesting.

First, if you prepare your existing Win7-64 by shrinking the boot volume enough to free up 50GB or more of unallocated space, you can simply download the Win 10 Media Creator directly from an MS website link.

You run the program and either install to a USB-stick or you burn the ISO to DVD. Then make a clean install of Win 10 to the unallocated space (creating a partition and volume).

Win10 seems pretty lean. The initial installation takes up about 15GB of HDD space.

The install leaves you with a dual-boot system from an initial Win-10-style boot menu. No conflict in NTFS volumes -- no problem.

At first it's a turnoff with that "Millennial-style" Cortana. You initially have to poke around the configure and find things you want "up-front" and ready. For some odd reason, after working with it for a day it begins to look more and more like the Windows we're used to.

Seems faster on a 9-year-old Gateway C2D 2.4Ghz laptop. I can feel it. That's my initial assessment.

But you can keep your old Win 7. When Win 10 asks for a product key, you just enter the Win 7 product key, and it activates. No conflict between the OS installations.

I should've figured this out earlier, because it was evident in web-articles, guides and advice as early as 2015 September. You should be able to duplicate all your important program-application installations under Win 10 -- nor any licensing conflict --same hardware hash code.

Disadvantage: you have to reinstall all your stuff.

Advantage: no glitches from "upgrade" process; continue to use and reference the Win 7 installation while getting comfortable with Win10; no hurry to "reinstall all your stuff" until you're ready. You could either clone the dual-boot drive to a larger SSD so that each drive volume is proportionally expanded, or eventually phase out the Win 7.
