When installing Windows 10 which is the best set up for a home computer? Should I install using my MSA or is it better to simply set up a local account?

Because of the privacy, it is always better to use local account.
Also, while installing Windows 8.1/10 don't choose Express Install option, use custom instead and leave only Essential options ON (Driver and apps updates etc).

Depends. Having an MS account is certainly handy for using Universal (Metro) apps and One Drive.

I like using the msa to sync all of my pc's with one drive, however you can access it from any pc by logging into your account online. What it won't do is backup your files to your account automatically unless your account is linked to your msa. What I don't like about the msa is when you lose your internet connection it won't allow you to log in. It should allow you to get into your pc regardless of whether or not you are online.

Is that new for W10? Win 8.1 would just make you use the last password.

He's mistaken and nothing's changed. You can still log in using the latest password it knows.

It'd be pretty difficult to take a laptop to a coffee shop if you couldn't log in without connecting to wifi and can't connect to wifi without logging in. :D

My laptop will not log in without an active connection so I know what I'm talking about.

Tangent:

My computers have been refusing to create even local accounts via the Settings menu. I have a mini network usage monitor active and it shows that every time I try to make a local account, network info is sent out. Hmmm...

I wonder if it's trying to access some remote MS server, and then failing.

Some big website needs to do a huge investigation of the privacy issues of this OS.

Always setup a local account first and foremost with a password you can use to get in then set up a Live account. Trust me on this.

Not sure if you're talking to me, but I've been trying to make new local accounts from my local account. It still seems to send out info, and then fails.

I have to make local accounts with the under-the-hood account management tools, via the Windows 10 version of this:

No, meant for anyone going into a fresh installation. Having a single account on a machine be a Live account is just asking for trouble some day. Always have an alternate way in is what I meant.

I like to go through lusrmgr.msc for management (not available in home versions). That is odd that it has to phone home to create local accounts.
