Windows 10 install completely borked?

So, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T430 and wanted to update my drivers. Here's how that goes:

1) I try using the Lenovo Service app, and Windows Defender flagged it as a virus. Lenovo says it worked with Windows to make sure the app is recognized. So my Windows installation must be out of date, right?

2) I attempt to update my Windows 10 installation by Settings--> Update & Security--> Windows Update. However it just says "We couldn't connect to the update service." Nothing happens after repeatedly clicking and waiting to update.

3) Alright, my Windows is out of date, LSB flagged, I can't even access the Update service. So now I attempt to fix Windows update errors using this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/fix-windows-update-errors . Second suggestion is rename software distribution backup folders. I open Windows Command Prompt as Admin, type Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak , and it returns "Access is denied." So apparently, I can't even run commands as an admin?

What in the name of all that's holy is going on? Is my Windows 10 install borked?

Personally I would never Update Directly through the Internet using the manufacturer site or ant other 3rd party site. I do through MS Uprated or manually after downloading the Drivers to my HD from a credible source.

I.e., it is bad enough that Win 10 constantly ""Scans"" the computer and I do not see good reason to give this capacity to others too.

There is know real coordination between every one on such issues and some even use it for "nefarious reasons.

That said the info in these pages might help.

Thank you, a step in the right direction.

Using the article, I attempted to troubleshoot Windows Update using Windows troubleshooting service. Now I see this error message:

Error code 0x803C0103.

Can you tell me why I might be getting this error message?

Try this free (& also paid version for extra features) software:
One of the many included functions is "repair Windows Update".

What version of Windows 10 is this?

Did you try to go into the Windows Recovery settings at startup or if your OEM has some Windows Recovery media available did you try using that yet?

You could try doing a clean install of Windows 10 by using the media creation tool that Microsoft offers on their website. That could fix the problem.

I think the reason why Windows is saying that it is a virus is because the Lenovo application that you are referring to is now called Lenovo Vantage. That is what the Lenovo program on my new ThinkPad laptop is called, which I got in June of this year.

There is also the possibility that there could be a virus or malware on your computer that might be preventing you from installing or downloading Windows Updates.
