windows 10 holograms?

I just received an email explaining how windows 10 will be free and Cortana for PC, Spartan browser, best windows ever, ECT, ECT, ECT, marketing bs talk. Then a video I decided to watch it mentions holograms like this:

How could I not hear about this? The glasses are they wireless? How does the image stay in the same spot or does it move with your head?

It was talked about a while back look up Microsoft Hololens

And pretty much it some of the media that had a chance to look at it, it pretty much matches up the expectations / video on the MS site

It is standalone as far as I know. They did a pretty lengthy demo yesterday at Build. Pretty cool, very futuristic, but still not sure how useful in everyday life. I can see a lot of very specific applications though.

Yeah, I doubt that it will be of any use to End User/ regular Consumers in the next 5 years.

That said many Scientific, Medical, Industry, and Special groups looking forward to make use of it ASAP.

One application could show you exactly how to remove and reinstall a part in a car.

And to think there is something similar for F-35 pilots, but it cost $400,000.

When this tech gets smaller and more main stream I bet like people aimlessly looking at their smartphones they will be walking around the streets and interacting with stuff using gestures and looking dumb. I mean you see people talk to themselves all the time with Bluetooth, but now you can add hand motion. LOL!

I had a great thought for a use yesterday. We're thinking of building a small retainer wall. It would be useful to be outside looking at what different bricks and layouts would look like when finished.

what would be kool would be a car interface for night and bad weather with sensors in/on the car.
saving lives by giving better / enhanced vision , maybe built in gps , peeps walking on a road in the dark being high lighted , deer , kids stepping out between parked cars , backing up camera etc.
I do a lot of driving for work and just using a good auto gps cuts down a lot of eye stain looking for street signs ,up coming turns even in areas I know well.

I disagree. I will never feel safe on the road (even as a pedestrian who obeys signals) as long as there are idiot humans drivers everywhere. Humans driving cars would be the first thing to go on my list.

This all sounded really cool...except for one thing.
The FOV if basically like you are looking through a tunnel.
Which means, that if they actually let you see what the person sees, you would be looking at a very small view field.
That blows chunks.
