Windows 10 Free for Users of 7 or 8/8.1?

Is it true that windows 10 indeed will be a free upgrade for these O/S Users within the first year? What gives? Microsoft, to my knowledge, has not handed out free upgrades in the past. So what's your take?

And to get everybody with a computer an online ID so that it is easier to get personal information.

Too vague. I only buy OEM and clean install, I suspect that this is upgrade only so pfffft, I'll just spend another $100+ on the OEM versions. As usual.

Hi guys; Today it came to my mind, why not to try to install Win 10 Preview on my Hp DV-6 1259DX, nothing to loose,
So i removed the original 500BG HDD with Win7 Home Premium installed, and replaced it with an HDD 250GB that i had in my scrap.

First i went to the same site where i downloaded Win Vista ISO for the other laptop HP-DV-5,and downloaded Win 7 Home Premium Iso and burned Image to a DVD-RW and installed it,i had no problems, everything installed and updated OK automatically accepted the activation key,o i went to the site for win 10 upgrade Preview and registered and started to download win 10 preview build 9926,at first it gave me some errors that failed upgrade to Win 10 Preview build 9926,these are the codes i came across.
code;800401fd,802400b,80240055, i checked with Microsoft, what were those errors and how to fix, learned if i had error codes to try Dr Fix it, i did run Dr fix it, and afters a few tries to upgrade, rebooted and tried upgrade one more time, now the Upgrade started and installed and now everything is running smooth so far nothing to point out, installed Google Chrome and now i'm set,

When i boot to desktop it gives me the choice of Win 10 preview and Rollback
i don't know what that means is it I can go back to win7?

Here's a pic of the desktop.

Do you mean we have to pay for Win 10 after 1 year? spend a hundred bucks?
if that's true i have my other Hdd win Win 7 to go, to pay for an upgrade not a chance. besides i like Win 7.
i thought i heard that this Upgrade was free, did not hear to pay after a year.

I believe the upgrade lasts forever, but you can only do the upgrade for free within the first year.

That's what i understand and red in other sites.hope that's true.

by the way how do we minimize browser pages to the taskbar like in win 7?
i just was browsing in a site and needed some thing from other site i did minimize page to task bar, and went looking for the first page i had minimized to task bar and it was not there, i lost all the text i had written and had to write all over again, i hate when that happens. I guess this browser doesn't support same way win 7 desktop does with Google chrome or IE, this is the same way as Ubuntu UNITY that i hate and i like gnome Flashback desktop, vista, xp, win7 desktops

would anyone here be so kind as to give me their impressions on:

1) is there any noticeable mouse lag/latency (as there was in W8) ?

2) any polling reduction/forced power saving feature / other locked safety features?

i'm quite happy with W7 and i don't want to find the new OS is more restrictive or less gamer-friendly than the one i have now.

also.. have they finally made it easier to edit themes/folder icons? and does the color calibration still go askew every time you reboot?

Can you give details on what you mean here? I never saw any mouse lag in 8 or 8.1 (nor do I see it in 10) - I've got a mouse polling at 1khz...that's driver driven.

You have sources showing these issues?

https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=windows+8+mouse+lag

it was an issue with quite a few people. i experienced it myself, plus sluggishness in the unreal engine 3, so bad in fact that i had to go back to 7.

This is no longer an issue with an up to date 8.1. They disabled that power saving feature entirely (at least on the desktop) so it will always run at whatever the full polling rate of your mouse is with no workarounds required.

No mouse lag here with my gaming mouse and I game a lot both online in FPS games and offline everyday, bottom line no issues for me with Win8.1(great OS),looking forward to Win10 since IMHO it's building on Win8.1 as its platform so going to be another great OS in my books,Win7 sorry dated and dead OS to me.

I sometimes wonder what is special about Win7?..I say that having owned and used it on three of my PCs for many years since day one(all updated to newer Operating Systems),I wonder why some people can't get over it.

Regardless roll on Win10 RTM looking forward to that 🙂.

Btw Microsoft offering Win10 free (except Enterprise users for obvious reasons)to 7/8/8.1 users if you upgrade within the first year is a win win situation IMHO,excellent move by Microsoft.
