Windows 10 change my password

I cloned win7 back around the 29th and ran the win10 installer on that clone, popped it in when I had time to get a feel for 10. Everything was running fine and my windows login password was the same as it had been for the last year. Friday I used 10 for most of the day
and logged in to my onedrive account and also checked my mail in outlook.com, which I don't use at all except for mail coming from Microsoft. This evening I booted 10 and typed my password, as usual, a couple times in fact before wondering what the heck. I lean forward and read the screen and lo and behold it wants me to login with my Microsoft account!!! Well, I have no idea what that password is because it's handled by a password manager. Yes, I have the same password manager on my notebook so no time lost. But,
it could have been a lot worse if it were Monday morning. WTF Microsoft !!!!

Sounds like you weren't paying attention when you logged into other stuff and linked your accounts together, switching off of a local account to the Microsoft account.

This is also why I hate password managers because they do you no good if you can't get to it or it breaks and you need your password. Just memorize the darn things or write them down someplace you can get to.

Your onedrive/outlook account is your log in so try using it. I for one love having all of my pc's synced to my ms account keeping my important files up do date across 3 pc's. I wish they'd done this sooner so I could've saved time and effort before now.

Then its a lesson for you as the user. You can't blame such a device when the one operating it was the one who has the brain to do it.

They did it a long time ago with win7 and skydrive.
