Windows 10 and Home/Pro keys, upgrades and conversion?

My understanding is that with Win10, MS made Pro/Home essentially the same deployment binaries, and that which one you get is controlled by the product activation key.

In that, if you install Win10 Home, but want Pro, you just need to input a Win10 Pro key to convert to Pro.

See:

My question is thus, does it work the other way too, to downgrade editions?

What happens if you install Pro without a key, and then later acquire a Home key, that you want to install and activate. Can you do that, and end up with an activated Win10 Home?

Apparntly, you need to perform some Registry mods, and then a Repair installation overtop with Home.
