Sorry if there's a thread for this already. I couldn't find it, but if there is then please direct me to it.

I was wondering if you have upgraded to Windows 10 yet. Do all your games work? Are there any particular issues? How's the performance compared to Win 7, 8?

I'm still on Windows 7 but I'm thinking it might be time to upgrade soon. 🙂
 
When win8 came out, benchmarks showed that it was slightly faster than win7, win10 is about the same as win8. Its not a big difference, google it since so many comparisons have been done. Dx12 is the game changer and games will run alot faster than dx11.

Only in benchmarks,in gameplay they will run just as fast but with less cpu resources.
Only if you have a gpu that you can't drive to ~100% with your current cpu will games be faster,other than that you will only get slight inprovments.

Once they've figured out all the hidden stuff that needs turned off, I'll consider it. Until then, enjoy being an early adopting guinea pig.

The 'no reason to be on 7' is what is laughable. The auto forced push of updates alone is enough of a reason not to upgrade (unless they've since shown how to force that to manual).
 
Been Win 10 gaming since the beta's. Swapped my main pc over once it was officially released. Been pretty smooth. Biggest issue I've had is with third party hardware software. Logitech seems to keep putting out crap software that has issues with win 10 (had them with 8 and 8.1 as well). Games have been running flawless though.

what issues do you have with their software? I use their mouse software and would like it to work in 10

still on 8.1 but doing a new build in like a week
 
There is no reason to be using Windows 7 on a gaming box since Windows 10 came out.

Hell, I have moved every PC I have to Windows 10 and am very happy with them.
 
I tried Windows 10, and some of my older games that ran properly on Win 7 did not run properly on Win 10. In addition, I was getting about 25% cpu usage idling on the desktop. Task manager said it was Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Tried updating the driver, and scanning for malware, but was still getting high idle cpu usage.

So I went back to Win 7. I really see no reason that 10 is better, except when DX12 games finally come out.

A new build is a bit different and you can always just wipe it and do whatever if it doesn't work for you.

While it sounds like most people's upgrade from 7 has been pretty painless, there is little incentive to actually do an upgrade at this point. Maybe in another 6 months (or whenever games actually start needing DX12) but until then, I see no reason to rush it. But that's just me, I always slow adopt new OS's. Comes from my work experience I guess.
 
10 has caused me no problems thus far. I have yet to get some older titles that I want to keep around installed (NWN and FFXI in particular) but afaik FFXI is fine on it at least. I expect NWN will work fine as well.

What are the reasons to move to 10? I have a stable Win 7 machine that can run everything I throw at it. What am I missing by not upgrading. Seriously curious as I haven't scouted the differences much.

Its more secure, will be supported longer, DX12 for the future and its free however if you're happy with Win 7 I don't think its weird to stay there.
 
The only problem I had was with old games with securom. Specifically Mirror's Edge from Origin (bought it for 5$). I just used a crack.

No issues here. Picked up a few FPS here an there on various games. The most was Star Citizen where I saw a good 10% increase.
 
I finally converted my Windows 7 to 10 two weeks ago. My last hang up is the fact that my retail box full license Windows 7 is now converted to a license that is tied in to my current hardware (so it's like a pseudo OEM). Now I can't simply just swap this license to a new computer that I build with completely different components. But then I thought I probably won't do that in the next couple of years anyway, so I just went through with the free upgrade.

Their Logitech Gaming Framework software doesn't work with my headset (G930). My mouse actually worked great. No issues there.

With the headset it wouldn't connect properly and would disconnect all together after about 15 minutes of continual use. I had to end up using the charging cable to connect. This was with the latest release i was using about 3 weeks ago.

The driver software itself would also crash after a while. This is an older bug I've had for a while. Even in Windows 8/8.1. My mouse would keep its config since I save on device but the control keys for media wouldn't work with my keyboard.

I finally rolled it back to a Windows 8 driver from about 6 releases ago (8-9 months I think) and it's been much more stable.

The only issue I have now is there seems to be a memory leak in the software. I normally leave my system up 24/7 with a reboot after updates. Now I have to reboot every 3-4 days because the software will use so much memory it crashes. Talking about 2gb for just the software. Reboot every few days keeps this from being an issue. I can at least work with that.

Anyway, to surmise my Windows 10 experience without the shameless use of URLS: I've had a few bugs so far, one update left everything inaccessible except for the command prompt, so I was able to restore and fix it.

The start menu is "fixed" so you don't need to get classic shell, but the app store still spams the start menu by default.

8 was superior in performance to 7 in pretty much all aspects given the same hardware. Only perception held back the standard consumer from benefitting from improved performance much like the Vista (post SP1) days.

*shrug* I only get updates to core windows components and it's not an issue. Windows 8 & 10 are more stable than 7, run better than 7, manage memory better than 7.
