When I checked with one of my friends He said the only way is to reinstall xp. First I wante to now if that's the only say and second if I reinstall Xp will i lose info. Sould I reinstall my apps also.
Thanks for your help

if you reinstall only xp, i dont think you will lose your stuff

if you format...its gone forever

windows xp is homo about installing new hardware (if you dont have a cracked edition 😉)

i thought you had to call microsoft or something....or maybe that was the original plan and it fell through...i dont remember, but maybe this will get you started

Alrite, well changing hardware without reinstalling the OS usually results in what you described above.

The main solution is to reformat, and reinstall, in which case you'll lose all your info, and will most liekly have to call Microsoft to get a new activation key, since the hardware setup has changed.

In which case you'll have to reinstall EVERYTHING, all your apps and such.

However, I would still try a few options first, such as try booting into Safe Mode, and go into Device Manager, and remove all the devices, especially the system devices, and then reboot and let windows redetect everything.

Or, you could try reinstalling XP over your current installation (which I don't recommend), but it would retain your data (at least that's how it was with 98).

But if all else fails, just reformat.

XP doesn't install over itself, it will force a re-format of the HDD before it re-installs.

It appears that the program Win98LITE (or IEradicator) will do it for
all versions of windows (95-2000) except for XP........sorry.....Greg
