I purchased my car used and it came with an aftermarket tint on it and compared to all of the cars on the street, it looks much darker. I had a friend get his windows tinted at the maximum for our state and mine looks alot darker. So i was wondering if anyone had an idea of what percentage this is...in Virginia the law says 50% on the front sides and 35% on the back sides so I just want to know if I am darker than that. here is the pic(not the greatest but it'll have to work) Car

Doesn't look all that dark. You can still see through it, but I have no idea what %age it is.

Edit: The tint on the windows of the SUV next to it looks darker.

Simple, bring your car down to the local police department and ask them.

This noob here decided to ask here first cause 5 minutes of my time wasted is alot better than a couple hours trying to find a police station to let them look at it when i'm sure they'd be thrilled to do it.

For some reason that picture makes it seem alot lighter than it is...i guess the angle does something to it. Thanks for the compliment and yeah its a Mazda6

Just leave it. The chances of getting pulled over are almost nonexistant.

Remember that the sun will lighten it over time, so after a couple of intense summers won't be as dark. Unless you keep it in a garage all the time.

Even without the phone book or the internet, I heard theres a number... I think its uh..... uh.... oh yeah. 411.... Guess you could call information and ask for the local police departments phone number. Call them up, ask to speak with an officer, explain whats up and I am sure he would not mind taking 30 second out of his day.

My GF just got busted at 25%. Your rear windows look the same as hers, but the front windows look ok IMO. Since you just bought it, call the local police department and ask them if they will check it for you without penalty.

how does asking this question make him a "noob"? Lighten up, there's nothing wrong with asking here first. If you don't like the thread then stay out.

I would just leave the tint the way it is if you like it. From my experience the cops only make it a point to stop you if they can't see in the front windows. I had the back windows in my acura tinted at 2.5% a few years ago and never got stopped for it..

My guess is the percentage is 35%. Hard to tell from the pic but its not THAT dark.

However, if you have the cash, I think it would look MUCH better to have the same tint all the way around. The tint on the back looks like it may be turning a bit purple anyways. I had 35% on all of my windows in my '04 black WRX and it looked very nice. Never got hassled by a cop once. But if you are worried you could just do 50% on all the windows. I also live in VA.

If you get pulled over for it, just explain that you bought it like that and you didn't know. You'll probably just be told to get it taken off.
