Window Prefetch

I've been wondering for awhile.. Whether or not to disbale my windows prefetch ..as firend keeps teling me to do it cause I have low RAM (512) and my computer runs slow.. he says it would speedup the startup and overall performance.. can anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages? Btw, this is for my old computer.. not the one in my sig
 
It's sure not going to speed up anything, I can guarantee you that. Prefetch is supposed to make apps faster.

I'm pretty sure disabling it was passed off as a dumb and false myth.
