Ok I just installed NT 4 on an old Pentium 200...

I let the install setup the network and everything works fine. However when I open up Explorer it shows that all my hard drives are shared and that the WinNT folder in C: is shared. (has hand under the icons)

Is this normal? And if not how do I unshare these drives. I have never really used NT 4 before, but this machine was to slow to install Windows 2000 on.

Also if anyone has some sites that have some helpful tips on NT 4 let me know.

if u don't wanna share...u can stop the server service and this should stop the shares.

Im wanting to share one folder, but not all this stuff.

Anyway when I go to network neighborhood, it only shows the one folder I have shared, but in Explorer it has the drives shared.

As i rememeber in Nt4, you right click on a drive or folder, and go to the share or sharing section, and click

this shows the status of the sharing on the drive, if you haven't activated sharing then it will be $C or C$ or equivilent drive letter, the $ means its invisible on a network, so i presume not technically shared,

so if you want to share click on (share as)? and give it a name.

hope this helps, can't be more specific as doing this from mem, and my NT4 was german.

this linky had some good stuff i thínk

some stuff about NT4 and other OS

enjoy

thanks when I clicked on sharing and then went to permissions it said...
Shared for Administrative purposes, permissions can not be set.

Thanks for the link Marshy, looks like I was worried for nothing :)

<< These are the "Administrator" shares, they should NOT be removed.
But since the share-name includes the '$'-sign, this "Share" is invisible on the network and will NOT show up in the "Network Neighborhood" of other systems.
To grant access, which is also visible in the "Network Neighborhood", you need to define a "New Share..":

Yes they are really shared, you can type \\computername\c$ and get to the root of drive C, it's supposed to be like that.

It's there in all versions of NT, 2K and XP just don't put the hands on the drives.
