Window mod for the Sonata II?

Directron.com has a number of tutorials on modding, doing a window only one of the many.

Jab-Tech.com sells window kits as well as frozencpu.com. If you go with a window that uses a rubber strip to mount it do not go for the cheapest kit you can find. This is what I've been told. Check-out what crazypc.com has to offer.

I have a Lian Li window and it uses no mounting rubber. To my eyes this give a much better presentation w/o a black line breaking the transition from case to window. Your Sonata is most likely black and this would not be as impacting as on a silver case.

well said... but the kits they sell require you to do the cuts yourself. There's not a premade side panel with a window for the sonata II. So if you have the tools I say go for it, but as with any mod, do your research first and make sure it is something you're comfortable with doing. Good luck on the mod and post pics when done 🙂

I have the original Sonata, but the door size is exactly the same. The difference is that you do not have the pre drilled holes in the top.

I wanted to add a window to mine, so I searched for alot for a window. AS stated above, there is no window available pre-cut for a Sonata that I ever found.

With the handle in the door, it really narrows down the kits that you can get. The fact that you can use the entire height of the door (where I cannot due to the drilled holes), will make it easier to find one that fits though.

Alot of kits come with everything you need, including a cheap cutting tool. Not sure how well the took will work because the steel on the Sonata is fairly thick. I did end up adding a 120mm fan to the door, and just cutting the hole for the fan was a PITA. I ended up buying a Dremel to do the job, and would suggest using one vice any sort of cutter.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still debating on whether to actually get the case, but for ~$89 shipped with the 460W power supply, I think I might jump.

Love the sig, Ike, quiet has to be the most misspelled words on the forums...

The Sonata II is the best deal going for case/PSU combos right now. My 380W PSU is good, but now that Antec has put a bigger PSU in and kept the price the same, the deal is awesome.

Go ahead and jump, I'm quite sure you'll like it. It really is quiet. 🙂
