I bought a used computer. Turns out it has a pirated copy of xp pro on it says W.G.A
What is the easiest legal way to make the copy legal. Could I buy a copy and change the number using software then try to register?
I don't really need xp pro. Xp home would be fine since it is cheaper. However, I guess the reg # won't be interchangeable🙁

Your pirated copy is probably the pirated corporate version and VLK; I don't think you can use a new valid key from XP pro to validate that copy. I could be wrong though. In any case, it's probably best to go with whatever's cheapest you can find and do a new install.

If you're using someone else's copy of Windows, I would want to reinstall the OS anyway since it will have a new fresh install with my own settings. Just blow it up and reinstall.

I bought a copy of xp home. I would like to transfer all my outlook express email including folders and address book. I will be doing a fresh install with the new operating system. How do I copy over all my outlook express stuff over to the newly installed operating system?

Have you checked the menus for some kind of Export option?

There are Export and Import features for your Contacts and Mail in both Outlook
and Outlook Express .. .save them as both .pst and also as windows .csv files
not sure which one you need, that's why I suggest doing both .. one will work

Also, copy you entire My Docuuments Folder and also under Local Settings,
Docs & Settings, your entire User Profile Folder ... they will have a lot of
program specific user preferences and files in there

Just buy a $90 Windows XP pro CD and do a fresh install , back up all your important data on CD/DVD or external USB hard drive or if in a partition that you will not format.

Your pc should also run better after a clean install 🙂
