You're posting on one cylinder, friend.

What do you propose?

As an engineer at a solar company, I totally agree. Well just in general solar panels make sense. What doesn't make sense is the cost, but that'll change with the proliferation of thin film panels. Installing solar panels on everyone's roof is the easiest way, without changing much, to power the grid.

Exactly, The issues aren't about finding alternative power sources, the issues are we as a nation have let idiots lead the way. They say coal and nuclear is bad, but when alternatives are offered up like wind, solar, or tidal, we can't do those either. Stupid birds will be killed by wind turbines. Desert Kangaroo rats will loose habitat if we build solar farms. Fish will not be able to reach their spawing grounds if we build tidal systems.
There comes a time when you just have to tell someone to fuck off, otherwise you will never be able to do anything because someone will be upset at something you do.
I personally think we should be using more nuclear power than anything. It leaves the smallest foot print of waste for the amount of energy we get out of it. There has been 1 accident that was major and that was because the entire design was flawed (Chrenobly) and a minor accident (3 Mile Island). Sure there is danger in it, but there's danger in any plan. We've seen what happens when windmills fail. Solar is by far the least poluting and least prone to drastic failure, but solar panels are very inefficient.

Uh, sooner or later we won't have any choice. No idea how soon or late, but there's only so much oil and coal we've got here. Probably better if we do it before there's no alternative.
