Winchester with 4 sticks of ram

When using 4 sticks or ram with a Winnie, the chips are forced to 166mhz right? Will raising the FSB raise the ram speed up from 166? Or is it always stuck at 166 as a max?

Forced to DDR333 @ 2T.. You can overclock it though, usually depending on the board.

some chips work great with ddr400+, but i can risk burning out the mem controller...do so at ur own risk...

This is wrong!!!! You CAN run the ram at normal DDR 400 speeds. You must be explicit with the memory timings to do this. I have personal experience with this. Just find out the gauranteed latency settings for your ram and manually enter them into the bios and set the speed to DDR 400. Make sure you set the RAM to 2T as well. This should work with no problems. Call the ram manufacturers if you don't believe me

If you haven't noticed, the NewCastle, ClawHammer and Winchester memory controllers do not do DDR400 at stock. AKA: If you set it to auto.

My appologies Kensai. I thought you were saying that A64's couldn't run at DDR 400 at all without overclocking. If you just meant on the "auto" setting, then you would be correct.
