I bought a Winbook XP5 back in 95' and it was one of the best laptops I've ever owned. The active matrix screen on that puppy still rivals some of the better screens out there today... What are you planning on getting?

I have owned two WinBooks and keep up with their developments. The XL series ended with the XL3 . . . and they were by and large, very good and reliable. They were manufactured by Twinhead.

Then came the Si series . . . a loser from the git go. Even the HDD is not user replaceable (you have to remove the keyboard to access it.) That was made by FIC.

Now they have the J1, X1 and Z1. They have chronic audio problems. They have cut the volume level so low that headphones require external power. In any event, I suggest opting for the Intel mobile processors . . . and avoid AMD or Celeron models . . . just too darn hot running and the fan is on constantly.

WinBook has an excellent user's forum and you can browse there and see what bugs folks these days.
