It seems a lot of people are picking up the Winbook tablets sold at Micro Center, and I just got an e-mail from MC stating that there was a fix for the lack of HD space. Turns out, the patch does work and ended up giving me a good 2+gb of extra space. Figured I would post a link to the patch in case anyone missed the e-mail.

If you do have one, I am curious as to your thoughts? I've had mine for about a week now and tbh I am glad I didn't get the better models. The few apps I use that are better than viewing on my phone are there and that's probably the most I will do with the device.

This link set off my malware detector with Avast.

I sandboxed it and it still set it off.

i love mine! sold the office 365 on ebay for $35. so i basically got the tablet for about $35.
connect it to the 37inch tv via hdmi along with the usb kb/mouse and i got myself a desktop. or connect it to the projector to stream 1080p mkv files. so much better than a raspberry pi!
as for storage, i got a microSD card for music and pictures. so no complaints about space.

If I use mine while it's plugged in it tends to get super hot, does yours do the same? Not sure if my battery is defective or not.

I'm impressed with all the useful ports this thing has. It is entirely usable as a light use desktop in a pinch so long as one keeps their expectations in check. And for $60 it's extremely accessible and a much better alternative to the Pi. Storage is the only issue but that is easily fixed by Micro Sd and external Hard Drives for data storage.

I got the 8" with 2gb/32gb and love it. I have it plugged into a 24" monitor via micro-HDMI to HDMI and use it as my main desktop.

It's pretty sweet that you are using it as your main desktop. You have no problem with it getting super hot while you are using it with it being plugged in? I am still a tad bit worried about mine, it's definitely the battery. Also, is there a trick to getting the scaling correct when plugging it into a TV? I tried a 27" but the image went off the screen when i set the tablet to the highest resolution. Couldn't find any scaling options.

I was going to change the title of thread to some general Winbook topic but it seems I can't.

I haven't noticed any heat issues but I also haven't really checked as it just sits on the desk while I work. I imagine if it did get super hot it would auto-shutdown at some point and I used it to remote into the office on Monday for about 12 hours straight without issue. I only had Citrix, IE and Explorer running so I probably wasn't taxing the CPU at all. I'm using a 24" AOC 1080p monitor and didn't have any scaling issues; it just worked properly right out of the box. I did have issues with the orientation in the beginning. When the tablet was in portrait, the monitor was in landscape and vice versa which is confusing. Also, on the monitor HBO GO works fine but Netflix is stuck in a 90 degree orientation which renders it useless. I haven't figured that out yet but it's probably just configuration.

I think there's a way to edit the thread title in the advanced settings or something when you edit the first post.

Ahh I am guessing the TV that I am using must be 720p. I'll have to play around with it a bit more I guess. I have an i5/hd7750 rig in the same spot that doesnt have the issue so it must be something in Windows. The tablet would only let me pick between two resolutions.

If you remember, feel the back of it after it has been plugged in and used for a while. I am super curious to see if other peoples tablets are getting really hot as well.

Have you tried disabling the tablet screen and using the 2nd Monitor as the primary display?

i have not notice heat issues because i dont use it that long yet.
no scaling issue when connecting to HDTV at 1080p.

the only complaint i have is that the battery is not user replaceable. but since its dirt cheap and good, i am willing to forgive that flaw

I am trying to listen to Spotify in the offline mode on my new Winbook 700 and I can't seem to be able to do it. I have put a 32 gb micro sd card in it but nothing seems to help.

Recently a family member's laptop died and right now they don't have the time or money to get it fixed. I haven't had a chance to look at the WinBook in person so I was wondering if it's good serviceable alternative?

Also is it possible to open it up and upgrade the RAM inside? I've got some old laptop memory (2x2Gb) sitting around that might give it a nice boost. If people in the forum don't know, I'll be asking the Microcenter guys this afternoon and report back.

I bought a Winbook TW801, tried it out for a week and returned it yesterday. I have an Asus Memopad HD7, so I am used to the limitations of tablets. I decided to check out the way Windows 8.1 compares to the Android platform.

I first did the usual cleanup of a new os by getting rid of the hibernation files and some little tweaks here and there. I downloaded the windows updates and got the device set up similar to my laptop and desktop. I installed a wireless mouse to help with navigation but found the onscreen keyboard to be adequate. Some things became frustrating and I feel that it was not the fault of CPU or memory. Windows Defender was really sluggish when doing a scan and I tried it in different modes. I finally felt that the problem was Windows 8.1

I did beta testing of 8.1 and have followed the many threads here at AT and elsewhere concerning it. I feel that Windows is too flabby for this tablet. It just seems like there are too many background processes going on.

I am thinking that the tablet fad is over with and Windows is late for the game.

False positive, unless microcenter really is distributing malware? I doubt it. The file is intended to change Windows in some way for these low storage tablets so I guess that is possibly the reason.

Either way I don't think it's malware lol. I scanned with AVG network edition and it has no problem with the file.

I don't believe it's possible to open them up and increase the ram, although they do have an option that has additional RAM installed. (8" vs 7") If all you use it for is very light media use, email, light web browsing etc it should be fine as a replacement. Anything more than that and they'll have trouble.

Did the link work if so, I WANT it please... :)
I could care less about viruses, I can handle those. Send it to me through email if nothing else. matthew84@live.com
Also I found an extra 18GB by cleaning my junk files with Iobit registry cleaner pro. It still does what it did as soon as I installed Windows, which is keep showing higher or lower freespace.
I still want the file though :) I am willing to test it.
