I dl'ed it... still has some missing functions, but the free-form skinning is damn cool. There's a lot of new features too, and I need to play with them to figure them all out! :)

I don't like it at this point...maybe it needs more fooling around but first impressions count a lot. Back to 2.5 with the 2.22 decoding engine for me.

Wow, that's excellent...I can REALLY tell the difference with my speakers/receiver! (see specs on my page)

Just tried it. Looks pretty cool. I can tell its in Alpha stages (buttons not workin, skins not completed). Overall, looks pretty good. :)

Works fine in win2k for me. Its rather bloated, takes up 4x the resources compared to 2.7, but that may be due to it still being alpha. I see no new features that would want to make me use it over winamp 2.7. It does look cooler though, but still sounds the same as 2.7.

I couldn't figure out how to play my files with it. When I clicked on "play file" it said to look for this feature in the next beta.....

It sounds a lot better than 2.72 and earlier IMHO. The older ones seem to have a more faded, distant sound- but now it is a lot richer and fuller!

Thanks!

Damn this thing is bloated.. I got mine off of betanews's site.
It sounds a tad better but its using 22megs of ram on my win2k system.

Re: MAD plugin

Looks like I need something better than these 2 year old Altec Lansing ACS-45's to tell the difference between the latest MAD beta, and Winamp's 2.72b mp3 decoder.

Edit: BTW, there's a known issue with the MAD decoder that might result in some of you hearing imaginary improvements when there really aren't any:

<< - using DSP effects (including the equalizer) will negate the effects of
dithering
>>

So if you're comparing Winamp's decoder to MAD, be sure to keep the equalizer OFF.
