OK, honestly I haven't had a version of winamp installed in a long time. Why do so many people use it? Do you have it for mp3's? I don't like or use mp3's so does it offer anything else? And I'm not looking for nifty graphics to go with my music. Does it offer anything for those just listening to .wav files or cd's?

I use it for the 10band EQ, and the DFX plug in on Mp3's. I have heard that the EQ doesn't work with CDaudio. I like the interface, the options, and it's free.

You could just use the default player if you are just going to listen to CD's. Or use media player 7, which as per usual, is kind of buggy.

Now that I think about it, does anyone use Cowon Jet Audio? Does it do anything for ya? I'm just trying to see if there's anything out there that would be a good addition for listening to .wav and cd files.

One piece of advice is to get a converter for your .wav's. Mp3's have almost a 10 to 1 radio for compression. (i.e., if a song is 30000kb it wil be reduced to 3000kb after conversion.) Just something to mull over.

I don't like or use mp3's. Just wondering if there's some fun/useful audio stuff out there to use with CD's and .wav files.

Winamp, in my opinion is the premier listening application that is free and easy to use. I use it because it is extremely stable, and there are all types skins, plug-ins and enhancements you can add. It seems like they are always improving winamp over all the other players out there. MP3 is the format of choice becuae if you have lots of music stored on a hard drive, a .wav file will bloat your hardrive whereas an mp3 is smaller and sound almost just as good....

Really? the first anti-mp3'er you've seen? wow! I don't have a lot of wav files. the only time i have wav files is before they get burned to disc. I record shows that i go to with my DAT deck, upload to the pc, clean up if needed and then burn to CD. Sometimes i get lazy and leave the wav's there for a little bit of time, but they don't take up any space comparitively. Will winamp offer anything to me when listening to CD's and DAT tapes?
