I have about 700 songs in winamp, and they have been working find (they are encoded as high quality API's using the ubernet standard), but they sound horrible, unlike they ever have before, i can hear static at an extremely low level, and I have no idea what is causing it,

could it be an other program? what could cause such a huge loss in quality?
The speakers are decent, and i have very decent integrated sound card on my nforce 2 board

what gives???

Do you have the Equalizer turned on? It could be ither that or a plugin you used. Turn off the equalizer, disable plugins and try again.

To be sure, try playing the files with another player, say WMP.

You might try muting your line in and other things in windows volume control... sometime you can get static from those

thanks yoyo, that did it, i had installed total recorder and it set itself as default, screwing with the sound, hadnt thought of it, but that fixed it and i got my sound back :)

by the way, i love winamp tjaisv, what other player would you recommend?

I got one last dilemma, I am getting a media center with some extenders in our house, does anyone know if WMCE still has the problem with tagging that WMP has??? it wont show VBR as true VBR etc..., if so, is there any other solution for playign music through the extenders??? (i dont think i can use like winamp, for example, with the extenders)

cool. I remember I was trying to watch the Godfather on my computer a while ago (like 2 years ago or so) back when I had Logitech z-560s and the sound was really quiet so I had everything cranked up all the way and there was horrible hissing. It took me a couple days to figure out that it was my line in making the noise.

I love winamp too :)
