Winamp Skips In XP !!! Please Help..

Hi,

I have XP Pro and am using winamp 2.80 Winamp will "occasionaly skip.. ( I would say I will hear a skip every 3 songs or so)

I have seen ppl complaining about this on 2 other msg boards, with no one able to really solve the problem.

Only on the winamp boards do they have suggestions. ( but honestly, they have about 6 threads on this problem and ppl are coming up with all sorts of ideas, and I would rather come here for a bit more "clarity")

I have tried going back to 2.79 and 2.78 did not help.

So if anyone can help.. I would appreciate it.

Thank You.

I've noticed this too, and originally thought it was only a problem with 2.8 (only noticed the skipping after I upgraded). Unfortunately, going back to earlier versions didn't help either. I'd love to know what's going on here and if anyone's got a good answer.

Nate

I used to have this problem when my hard drive was on the promise controller, but when I moved it to the regular IDE controller, the problem stopped. At the time, I was using winamp 2.77 and now using 2.8 with no problems. So it could be either drivers for the promise controller or just luck, but I have no problems now.

I am pretty sure this will fix it, it did for me, go into the preferneces and select winamp2 wave out plug in instead of direct sound bor your output plug in. it sounds the same and no more skips.

I usually am Playing a game with the wife on the LAN, serfing the net, and listening to some tunes and never have a skip and never see any lag. I have an 1900+ with 512mb of Sdram.

try this.

go here and download wa2update.exe that's the winamp developers latest plugins for winamp. i've had that fix some problems with new releases before.

Nope, Winamp is already a very streamlined mp3 decoder, uses at most 3-4% to decode, another 2% for output it your using WaveOut. I'd recommend switching to WaveOut, 2.80 seems to come with DirectSound selected by default.

I had alot of skipping problems when I scrolled using my mouse wheel, switching to WaveOut fixed it completely.
