Winamp/Quicktime destroyed sound quality

Okay I have two problems with my sound quality.

The first and most important is with Winamp. I used to play MP3 files just fine with winamp, but now they are playing with terrible sound quality. The same files in Windows media player work perfectly, but WMP is much worse as far as playlists/familiarity goes.

Second, Quicktime seems to play double with internet streams. What I mean is that the sound it makes is just about unrecognizable because it seems as though it is playing two streams, with the timing of both slightly off.

What could either of these problems be attributed to? I have a built-in sound card but I am quite sure it is a software/settings problem.

Have you, by any chance, installed a sound capture application like Total Recorder? I had a similar problem and eliminated it by uninstalling Total Recorder.

Try uninstalling and re-installign the sound drivers. Download the latest sound driver from the mobo manufacturer's website while you're at it.

Check the output plugin settings in Winamp. You should be using the DirectSound output plugin.

Howe this helps..
