Winamp 2 is a lean mp3 player. WMP is bloated with all kinds of video and on-line stuff that I never use while listening to MP3's. I use WMP for watching videos and winamp for MP3's.
BTW. Winamp 3 is quite bloated as well, so if you want lean, go with winamp 2.

what he said... Winamp3 is the prettiest, but doesn't randomly change skins like Winamp2 and is a resource hog, so i wouldn't recommend it. WMP is nice, but i've never bothered to learn how to use it for MP3s as its "playlist" feature is confusing and annoying. of course, since i already know how to use Winamp2, i never bothered to figure out WMP.

Another vote for Winamp 2 - very lean, hardly eats any CPU or RAM, starts quickly also. Avoid Winamp 3; it's really bloated.

My media player usage pattern lacks much difference from that spoken of by PCHPlayer and quoted above. ;)
