k, i use winamp to listen to my CD's and .mp3's, but that freaking media player keeps stealing the extensions. so, idealy, i double click an mp3 file, and winamp opens up and plays, but everytime, after i open the first song with winamp, ever song after that opens in media player. i can't figure out any options in media player to stop this, but i'm forced to reassign'em to winamp. to say the least, very annoying and yet another reason i hate M$. :-( any help please? OS: 98se winamp: 3 Window's media player: 9

In Media Player, go to Tools -> Options. Select the File Types tab; make sure MP3 is unchecked.
In Winamp, press Ctrl+P; then click on File Types under Setup and select the file types you want to be played with Winamp.

bah, i think the problem is i made the changes and kept goin, i never restarted windows. they all still had the WMP9 icon, so it got confused. now that its been restarted, it shows the good old winamp icon and works just fine. thanks for the help though. 🙂
