Winamp and Optical out on sound card?

Does or would Winamp work correctly with the optical output feature on the AOPEN Aw744pro sound card? The card has an optical output which would connect to my A/V reciever in my living room. I have winamp installed, and just wondering if there is a plugin for it to make take advantage of the optical output of the sound card? Or will it just recognize it?
