winamp and new nano?

I hate iTunes and don't want to install if I don't have to. Two of my iPods work fine with winamp 5.24 and the built in portables plugin, but a third new doesn't show up. It pops up as a storage drive, but refuses to show up in winamp.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that the first two were setup and named in iTunes, while the new guy was not. Is my only option to use Itunes to name it?
