Not sure what you mean by support in MP3's, it plays em. I use Winamp all the time, has a lot of features plus theres always cool plugins and skins.

I think OP means portable support, he/she probably has an ipod. Winamp can interface with the ipod, but I believe iTunes still needs to be installed for the plugin to work.

You need the ml_ipod plugin if you don't have Winamp 5.2. 5.2 has built-in iPod support, which I didn't even realize until just today. I'll have to upgrade.

http://mlipod.sourceforge.net/

Edit: I use ml_ipod and it works fine. The bugs are mostly worked out now and I don't get the random crashes I had before. I haven't tried the support in 5.2, I'll give that a shot tonight when I get home.

Sorry regarding the confusion. Yes I meant portable mp3 player support. I'm trying to ditch uninstall itunes so I was asking how the new built-in ipod support. Thanks.

IMO, if you have iPod, stick with iTunes. Winamp, Windows Media Player, etc are for the crop of mp3 players that are not from evil.. er.. I mean Apple.

The latest Winamp works really well with ipod syncing. The best part is that since winamp supports so many formats, it can transcode on-the-fly when you transfer music to your ipod. I keep CD rips in Flac on my PC, and transcode to 160kbps AAC for my ipod. (You can set it to do this automatically)

I've been using Winamp and ml_ipod for over a year now with my ipod and have had no trouble. It may not have all of the features that itunes has with an ipod; but when i need to create playlists, sync all 50+ gigs of my music, maybe throw on a movie or two, podcasts, audiobooks... etc., ml_ipod does everything for me correctly.

I never installed itunes on my computer and i'd prefer not too.
