I had to add a line in config.sys and autoexec.bat to get cdrom to work in windows. Cdrom shows up in bios. Does not show up in device manager. It does show up in explorer as my f: drive. Why wont Win98SE reconize it? It's suppose to. The drive is a Toshiba 40x
What's the configuration of the drive? Pri Slave or Sec Master/Slave? What about the rest of the other drives? have you tried booting from it using the Win98SE CD?
Cdrom is set as secondary master D: drive, not f: Just one hard drive and the cdrom C and D
I have an exclamation mark in my secondary controller. Is that why the drive is not reconized? Should I run the cdrom (primary slave)on the same cable as the hard drive?
try looking for noide entry in the registry.
Click Start, then Run... , and type regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS
if you should see a value named "NoIDE". Delete it, close regedit and reboot!
