Win98se won't recognize laptop battery!

Hey all,
I'm borrowing (fixing) my friend's laptop because it was seriously messed up. I ended up just formatting and installing win98se. Everything is fine now, but it doesn't recognize the battery. Even when it's unplugged, it just says on AC power. I have removed and reinstalled the APM and that didn't do it. Any ideas?
Thanks

Graham

Laptops and batteries can be very proprietary. Most have battery calibration programs that are run from the BIOS. Batteries do not last forever, and are constantly degrading . . . eventually they need to be replaced.

Suggest you go into the BIOS settings and check everything that relates to the battery. Also . . . check the laptop maker's web site for specifics, and a possible BIOS upgrade.
