decisions,decisions...My home machine is used mostly for surfing and games....anyone have any thoughts on the OS on my first build should be....thanks....
i've got 2 systems, one on 98, one on ME, both are great and i have no problems with either, but for games & surfing, seems support is still better in 98se and there are some cool programs that won't run in ME, tetrinet for example = ) ... he he
I'm using Win2k for surfing and games
I play Age of Kings, CS, TFC, a bunch actually. Make sure your hardware is compatible if you decide to use Win2k though.
I'm a pretty hardcore gamer and I use 2k. It hasn't NOT run a single game I have thrown at it. You just won't be able to play any DOS games (mostly older games and emulators like Nesticle, ZSNES, and others), but then again you can always use an old dos boot disk or a win98 boot disk to play those games. Works good for flashing BIOS's that NEED to be in DOS mode.
Just make sure your hardware is compatible with 2k.
If your hardware supports it I would go with Win2000,I have not seen any of those "blue screens of death"since I installed on 12\25\00 I love it.
I'm going to be building from scratch as well, and will definitely be using win2k. I had ME on my laptop, and I hated it. 2k runs well on it (333MHz PII).
I just up graded to Win2000, and only went back to 98SE to copy over my .wab (web address files) It's so sweet, so smooth, so damn fast! You'll love it.
