Win98SE vs WinME

Right now I am running win98se. I wanted to know a few things to compare it to ME.
1. is there any performance difference (in gaming, etc..)?
2. is one more stable than the other?
3. does one effect o/c potential more than the other?

anything else just let me know

Win ME is just Win98SE with extra multimedia garbage added on, so no it won't be more stable or faster. Oh, and they turned off the boot-to-DOS features to make it look like DOS is gone even though it's just hidden.

Win XP is Win2000 with a new user interface / shell and the copy-protection scheme. Win2000 is much more stable than 98/ME but you lose some games compatibility. That's why I use Partition Magic to set up 2 C: partitions and put Win98SE on one (for games), Win2K Pro on the other (for work).

from my personal experience i would recommend you stick with win98se or go onto win2k. i had winme installed for about a week and it was nothing but problems. constant crashing, and i had no use for all that extra multimedia junk

I like ME. It boots up in like 10 seconds, and runs just as fast as 98, and seems a lot more stable to me. I haven't had a crash in months.
However to get the best performace out of it, you have to turn off some of the "junk" MS added to it, like auto restore and such. Once you turn those off, it runs great!

I do the exact same thing. Windows 2000 is definately the best for work or anything else, but 98se is so much faster 😀

1. Nope
2. Nope
3. Nope

ME boots up faster🙂 Probably 1/3 the boot time in my experiences.
But of course Win98 is a more stable OS.
I'm not sure which one performs better?

I think XP is like a combination of the two. But only taking the best of the two. IMO
