win98se upgrade won't install from DOS

the latest chapter in the win98se reinstall...

I finally got 98 to install over my previous 98se setup, with a boot disk. When I try to do the same with 98SE it says that "this program requires windows." Which is already installed of course, but when I try and do the SE upgrade from inside windows it stalls.

Thanks,

Chris

P.S. Is zonealarm known to cause stability problems? Do I need to be running it on a college network?

If your '"TrueVector" service is giving you problems you have to delete a couple of files. Here is what I got from Zone Alarm when I was having "TrueVector" problems:

1.) open the zone alarm program/config panel/ & make sure the 'load at startup' box is UNchecked

2.) right-click on your taskbar/select toobars/ & make wure the zole alarm deskband is UNchecked as well.

3.) reboot - you should have no zone alarm running.

4.) open the internet logs directory (in 95/98/me it will be "C: \windows\internet logs" - in NT/2000 it will be "C: \winnt\internet logs") where you will find a file called "iamdb.rdb" and a file named after your computer withthe ".ldb" extension. Delete both of these files.

5.) reboot

6.) you will need to start zone alarm manually & it will start again with a fresh data base. Eaxh program should ask for access again id the files were properly deleted.

7.) be sure to REcheck anything yo unchecked earlier.

As far as being on a college network goes it's your PC so if you feel safer havnig it on then keep it. Good luck 🙂
