if I delete my swap file, will windows make a new one when it starts up or will it act dumb and not startup on win98SE? I ask this because im using my win98se hd as a slave and storing stuff on it and it would be nice to delete the 512meg swap file to gain more space, but I'll need to boot into win98 so I can't mess it up and have it not boot cause I deleted the swap file.

on win98 you can set the swap file to 0megs and it simply won't create on on startup...but i think it will give you a warning message when it starts basically telling you that you should have a swap file.

I'm talking about physically deleting the swap file and not changing the settings. When it boots up will it see there is no swap file and make a new 512meg one, or will it refuse to startup due to not being able to find the 512meg swap file I have set.

I'm pretty sure the swap file is created & destroyed at startup & shutdown.

you can't delete the actual swap file file while windows is running...it if you try it, it will tell you that the file is in use or something like that. the only way to eliminate the swap file is to tell windows not to create one on startup

You can drop into DOS mode and delete the Swap file, with no problems. Windows will re-create the swap file when you start the GUI again.

why not just shrink the size of the swap file? set the min/max the same so it doesnt resize itself.. ?
