Win98se setup order of installation?

I'm in the process of reinstalling and I'm not sure in what order to install updates(ie;directX,IE 5.5 sp2, etc.) and then the usual like Via 4in1's, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions or a website that addresses this topic? My system consists of as follows;
AMD Athlon 600mhz "classic" slot A on a Tyan Trinity K7 with Via chipset,Nvidia MX 400, Philips PSC702,Kenwood 72X cdr,Quantum 40g HDD I'm never quite sure what to do first, the windows updates or the mobo stuff. Please help TIA

i always install sp2 second-to-last and the 4-in-1's last. it's good to get all your hardware / major software installed and updated first and THEN to install all your patches last
