Win98SE Problems

After just installing Win98SE and all my drivers and software, for no reason before the Windows starts I get a configuration file update when nothing has been done. After that notepad runs on startup even though there is no notepad window. Is this a virus?

Sounds like a Kak worm of some variety. Also part of the payload can be a file that starts off as c:\windows\network.exe or another file that starts off ending in .hta.

yeah, it's one of those W32/QAZ virus varients. Did you install from CD? it's time to start fresh...

Got an Anti-virus program? If not....YOU SHOULD!!!!

Goto a place like download.com and search for "virus"....pull down a free/trial version of some anti-virus program...give it a try.

Just an update. I was over at his house and reformatted his HD and then put on 2k, then scanned his back files dir with Norton 2001 with latest updates and it's clean.
