Win98SE: Outlook Express won't start

- A friend used Eudora 4.x & requested conversion to Outlook Express 5.5 [OE]
- I converted her past email (some email dates became corrupted doing this!)
- I tested receiving her email under OE with no problem

Next day: OE hung on start-up. It complained that there's another copy already running. And nothing I do halts this -bogus- complaint!

I've repeatedly uninstalled OE, re-installed Win98SE(update), and re-installed IE5.5... with no effect.

I've scanned MS support files several times, with no hints found.

I've loaded Norton Utilities and fixed all identified bugs in the Registry.

I've loaded Win98ME (should be "CT" for Cosmic Trash) to no avail.

I've only one idea left, and would like to hear a saner approach:
- with OE uninstalled, delete every registry line referencing the
OE directory;
- then reinstall OE

Knowledgable help would be greatly appreciated!!!
