Well when I do get my 1.2 T-bird in March I am wondering which OS I should use. I will be using it for college next fall and will most likely be playing every game I can get my hands on, online as well, along with the school work. I have heard 98 is better for games but that ME is faster for other things and works with internet connections better. Which would be best? I already have both CDs.

You've got some time between now and college to experiment with both but if I were you I'd stick with Win98SE. It's just, IMHO, a much better OS. In fact, now that I think of it, definitely stick with Win98SE. By next Fall you'll be able to install Whistler ... and bypass WinME altogether!

Get Windows 2000, its superior.

But if you must you use the ancient 9x kernel then go for 98SE, I wouldn't touch WinME with a 39.5 foot pole. :)

I like Windows ME better than 98. It definitely is more stable and has a few additional useful features. However, I would recommend NOT installing Media Player 7. It sucks ass. Use 6.4 instead. And get 98lite. It lets you remove the few annoying features of Win ME, such as the system restore feature (it eats hard drive space). Other than that, Win ME would be a better choice in my opinion. I haven't had any problems with it stability-wise.

Get WIn98 SE, its definitely more stable. If you want more features, get Win ME. You'll lose the ability to boot into DOS from Windows though.

I use win98SE, I've had winME but winME is slower, takes up more space, and is less stable (yes LESS stable)

i don't use win2000 much ( i do have it installed in my syetem) because it does not run Bleem, NeoRagex, Puzzle Fighter, and a bunch of other emuator software.

DO NOT GET WIN ME!

I upgraded Last fall and had major problems.
The system ran incredibly slower, I thought I did something wrong so I also tried an install on a fresh Hard drive...same results.

Not all of the drivers that work with 98se will work with ME.
I have been seeing more and more drivers and support for ME but
removed it for 98se again.

By the way the Win 98 restore did something for about 20-30 mins and then restarted the system into a "no op system found" state.

I had to reformat, reinstall windows, perfs, programs and all.

Bad news. I wish I could have returned the disk for a refund...and possibly compensation for wasted time.
