Win98SE & GF2 MX won't recognize my monitor resolutions!

Hi All!

I've had this problem for awhile and haven't found a work-around. First off is my custom built system:

Intel Celeron2 566@850
AOpen AX6B board
eVGA GeForce2 MX - AGP
256mb PC133 memory
Windows98 SE
DirectX 7.0a
Proview PRO720 17" monitor

Windows desktop will not allow a screen resolution above 1024x768. The monitor supports up to 1280x1024@66mhz, 1024x768@85mhz, etc. I've tried doing the following with no results:

1) Using Plug & Play, 1280x1024, & Proview *.inf file drivers/settings.
2) Uninstalling & reinstalling Win98SE.
3) Used just about all the various Detonator drivers from 6.XX to 12.XX.
4) Changing monitor settings MANY times.

I don't think DirectX would cause this, but can't be 100% sure. The monitor works perfectly --- just can't use 1280x1024 for a desktop setting. I know Win98SE can display higher --- I've seen it at various stores running at 1280x1024.

Searching the Registry & Detonator *.inf files shows all the resolutions available, but I can't use anything over 1024x768 for my desktop. Interestingly enough, some of my games can use higher resolutions --- some (like USAF) cannot use higher than 1024x768.

It's not a very big deal, but I would like to view more of the desktop!

Many thanks!
Dennis
