Win98SE Explorer crashes when using IE, fault in user.exe

been having a problem suddenly - when i'm using IE i get totally random crashes in Explorer, which says that it's a fault in either 'user.exe' or '<unknown>'. very annoying since it clears most of system tray and closes all folder and IE windows.

figured IE 5.5 was getting old, so i upgraded to IE 6.0 SP1, but i just got it again after being crash free for a while ;( not sure what i installed or did, but i haven't been installing anything special....anyone familiar with this prob? oh and btw, i'm upgrading to Win XP Home soon, no need to tell me 😉 just low on cash this month, hehe...

you can see my system specs in my sig 🙂

Have you tried to repair IE?

I think in 98SE you could go:

Start>Run>msinfo32 and across the top was Tools with a dropdown to repair IE.

IE crashes suck. If Woodie's suggestion doesn't work, consider using a different browser such as Mozilla or Opera.
