I'm trying to do a clean install of win98SE. I booted off a boot disk, ran d:\setup.exe and the program said it will check my system components. the screen then read:

Please wait while Setup initializes.
Scanning system registry...
Windows Se

and freezes. any ideas on what's going on?

Hi, qwex.

I don't know what's going on. Sounds like you're not using a standard Win98SE startup diskette. (The CD drive would be E:, assuming one hard drive unpartitioned or with one partition and the RAM-disk as D:.) In what state is the hard drive, partitioned or un-partitioned? If partitioned, what file system? It's also possible that there's something wrong with the installation CD.

If you give us more information we might be of more help.

Regards,
jim

I figured it out: the drive was partitioned, but not formatted. once I formatted it, win98 installed :)
