Win98SE checks my floppy drives by itself, can I stop this?

I recently started to notice my system will check the floppy drives for disks at some predetermined interval. I will be across the room reading and the drives will light up and do a seek to detect a disk all by themselfs. Does anyone know what gives?

I have installed some "product updates" from MS but don't remember anything about this. I can live with it accept when I am playing games. The floopy activity really slows down the system and is very annyoing in the middle of my work.

Check your path statement. Probably pointing to A:\ somewhere. Take it out.

do you have some antivirus running in the background that was configured to scan the floppy every now and then?

Thanks, I checked and there is no A: in the path.

This is a new install, about four days and I have not put antivirus software on yet.

I have heard that Office 97's fastfind or something like that which loads at startup will cause the floppy seeks.
