Ok... I noticed my computer cannot come back to life from standby mode anymore after i did one of the follwing... 1)upgraded my soyo sy6vba 133 motherboard's bios...2) upgraded my via 4-in-1 drivers 3)someother random stuff like windows update perhaps...
I thought it was the motherboard bios so i flashed it with what i had previously, but no luck... but i did find out something interesting...with my old Bios, my cpu must be getting less power cuz my max cpu temp under load is around 39C as opposed to around 46C with the new bios...really interesting... needless to say i kept the old bios...
then i tried going back to old via 4 in 1 drivers but no luck... supposedly, version 4.25 is supposed to fix some sort of win98 hibernation problems but nothing... any ideas?

Take a look at #18 & others here.

edit: hmmm... links don't seem to be working. Just copy and paste the URL into your address bar.

edit #2: ahh... but they are if you are viewing in "enhanced" mode. A glitch/bug/problem apparently at the moment.
