I was updating my chipset drivers after putting my HD back on my old computer. Was working fine until I had to reboot to finalizze the settings. Anyhow, upon reboot it said display adapter not working properly and to insertWin98SE CD, but my CD and CD burner both are recognized. Under systm in control panel, first none of my devices are showing except system devices and under that only system board, processor support, and plug and play bios. The plug and play bios isn't functioning properly and says bios.vxd is missing from windows/system. I have no clue how and I can't put it back on because the CD-ROM doesn't work to load WIN98SE CD. So if someone knows the problem and can send me the file if they are using 98SE it would be greatly appreciated. Mail to viralcryption@yahoo.com.

Thanks

Try this:
boot off of your win98se startup floppy with cdrom enabled
put your win98 cd in the cdrom and note what drive letter your cdrom is
type this at the command prompt
c:\windows\command\xcopy z:\win98\*.* c:\win98 /e
where z: is the cdrom drive that has the win98 cd
When it asks if win98 is a file or directory, tell it it's a directory.
When it gets done copying you can restart into windows and you won't need the cd to install windows components, just refer to the c:\win98 directory.

Or remove the Enum key from your reg, and be ready to reinstall all your drivers.

Much thanks perderv, I didn't even think of that, though I did not know that exact command. I sued to have a slow old HD that I had copied Win 98 to, but took out when I got a new big HD and never put it back. The command paramters will come in uefiul in the future. The more you learn about the computers the more you realize how little you know.
